From Chapter 8: Leadership Creates Critical Mass
We’ve all learned to be cynical regarding sex, politics and religion at the office. We’ve all seen the utter waste of time and energy in exasperating legal action. We’ve all seen the results of negative corporate cultures slowly eating away at core competencies and key employees. And, we’ve all learned our lessons well. However, repression is no longer a viable leadership strategy.
Leadership holds the fundamental keys to forward movement. The viral energy that is produced by your first steps will encourage you to keep the ball moving. Somewhere, leadership must step up and put sex, politics and religion to work for the good of the entire enterprise.Leadership must hold up a flag shouting that there is a sustainable competitive advantage hiding right there in the office, and that it’s worth taking a shot at making it work. The back side of the flag should clearly indicate that the consequences of continuing present perspectives are continued frustration, cynicism, and mediocrity. It’s really not a tough choice when you take a clear look at the options and opportunities.
